THE DARK DARK by Samantha Hunt

This is not a review. I recently finished reading Samantha Hunt’s THE DARK DARK (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2017). It’s another sterling example of the dark fantastic creeping into literary works to produce something uncanny, even where the supernatural might not be immediately apparent. In here, women transform in the middle of the night, and doppelgängers abound. The final story, “The Story of Of”, is a tour-de-force of recursiveness that left me dizzy. A highly recommended volume, and an unsurprising award nominee.
